Pedro – Rick Scarberry’s supplemental contract as head basketball coach at Rock Hill High School was not renewed by the Rock Hill Board of Education by a 3-2 vote at Tuesday night’s meeting.
Scarberry has been the head coach at Rock Hill since the 1988-89 season.
Board members Wanda Jenkins, Fred Wells, and Carl Large voted for the non-renewal. Jackie Harris and Troy Hardy voted to renew the supplemental contract.
Superintendent Lloyd Evans said there was no particular reason for the non-renewal.
"There haven’t been any recent incidents.
"The only thing this year was at a practice when Rick used poor judgment and received a one-week suspension. But he accepted the suspension and it was all forgotten," Evans said.
"There really hasn’t been anything to justify non-renewal this year, it’s just something that has built up over the years."
Scarberry won an Ohio Valley Conference championship during his tenure, only the second in school history, and captured four sectional championships. His teams reached the district finals twice.
Coach Scarberry was unavailable for comment Wednesday morning.
