Symmes Valley beat East 2-1 Tuesday as Candace Sharp struck out 17. Wednesday, Sharp fanned only six but pitched a three-hitter in a 3-1 Southern Ohio Conference win.

"It was another tough game," Vikings coach Jeff "Odie" Estep said. "East put the ball in play today, but it’s hard to play back-to-back. We hit the ball hard, but right at someone.

"Sharp didn’t have as many strikeouts today, but she pitched well."

Symmes Valley got a run in the first when Tommie Holbrook reached on a one-out error, moved up on a wild pitch, and Sharp doubled off the top of the left field fence.

The Lady Vikings added a run with one out in the third.

Sharp singled, stole second, and Keren Bell had a two-out, RBI single.

Sharp generated an insurance run in the fifth. First she doubled, then stole third, and came home on a wild pitch.

An error allowed East to score in the seventh.

Symmes Valley, 6-4 and 5-0 in the SOC, hosts its invitational Saturday. The Lady Vikings play South Webster at 10 a.m. and Huntington Ross at 2 p.m.
