The Pointers not only improved to 13-6 overall, but ran their OVC record to 7-4 and put them, Coal Grove, and Chesapeake back in position to win or share the league title.

Fairland still leads the league at 6-3, but a win could have given the Dragons the inside track on the league title.

To make things even more interesting, the two teams meet again Wednesday at Fairland.

Jared Waggoner tamed the Dragons as he went the distance for the win, striking out nine and walking three. He also went 4-for-4 at the plate with a triple.

South Point went ahead 1-0 in the first when Waggoner, B. J. Belville, and Josh Morrison had consecutive two-out singles.

Fairland came back to go ahead at 2-1 in the top of the third.

Tim Adkins reached on an error, Chris Hardy singled, and Ryan Boso had an RBI single. Boso stole second and Jeremy Louden grounded out as Hardy scored.

But South Point erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the inning and led 9-2.

Shane Fuller singled, Brian Cremeans walked, and Waggoner had a run-scoring single. Belville walked to load the bases and Morrison had a two-run single.

With runners at first and second, a ground out put runners at second and third, and Jarred Perdue reached on a dropped fly ball as two runs scored.

Justin Eaches singled and Fuller followed with a two-run single. Cremeans and Waggoner singled to drive in the final run.

Fairland got two runs back in the fourth to make it 9-4.

Stuart Shepherd and J. W. Jones singled to start the inning and Adkins walked to load the bases. After a strikeout for the second out, Boso singled home two runners.

Fairland got two more runs in the top of the sixth to get within 9-6.

With two outs, Boso walked, Jeremy Louden singled, Kyle Leadmon walked to load the bases, and Toby Morrison had a two-run single.

South Point got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Waggoner got a lead off triple and came home on Belville’s base hit.

Both teams had 12 hits. Besides Waggoner, Fuller was 2-4 and Belville 2-3. Shepherd was 3-4 and Jones and Boso were each 2-4.
