With a 6-3 win over the Fairland Dragons Wednesday, the South Point Pointers clinched at least a share of the Ohio Valley Conference baseball title.

South Point finishes 8-4 in the OVC. Fairland and Coal Grove are both 6-4 and must play each other twice. Chesapeake lost to Coal Grove Wednesday and is 5-5.

Fairland (11-5) hosts Coal Grove Thursday in the Division III sectional tournament, and the two teams are scheduled to play OVC games Friday and Monday.

The Pointers Brian Cremeans gave a strong pitching performance with a six-hitter. He struck out 11 and walked five, four of them to Fairland leadoff hitter Ryan Boso.

Cremeans also went 3-4 to lead an 11-hit attack. B. J. Belville was 2-4 with a home run and Josh Morrison also went 2-4. Toby Morrison was 2-3 for Fairland.

South Point (14-6) took a 1-0 lead in the first when Cremeans singled with one out, moved up on a ground out, went to third on a hit by Belville, and scored on Josh Morrison’s base hit.

Fairland tied the game in the bottom of the inning.

Boso walked, Jeremy Louden singled him to third, and a ground out left runners at second and third. Toby Morrison hit into a fielder’s choice as the run scored.

The Pointers took the lead in the third with three runs.

Shane Fuller had a one-out double and Cremeans singled to put runners on the corners. Jared Waggoner hit a sacrifice fly for the lead, and Belville belted a two-run homer.

The Dragons came back with a run in the bottom of the inning.

Boso walked to start the rally, Kyle Leadmon drew a one-out walk, and Toby Morrison spanked an RBI single

South Point scored twice in the fifth to lead 6-2.

Shane Holsinger singled, Jarred Perdue walked, and Nick Clay put down a bunt that was thrown away at third base allowing Holsinger to score. Justin Eaches then singled to send Perdue home.

Fairland got its final run in the sixth.

Josh Dunfee had a one-out double, took third on a wild pitch, and came home when Tim Adkins grounded out to second.

K. C. Jones then singled and Boso walked, a passed ball moved the runners up, but Cremeans struck out the next batter to end the threat.

Dunfee pitched well in defeat as he struck out five and walked one.

South Point hosts Russell, Ky., Friday.
