Scoreless through four innings, South Point used a throwing error to open the gates of opportunity in a 3-0 win over the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers Wednesday in the Division II sectional semifinals.

Scoreless through four innings, South Point used a throwing error to open the gates of opportunity in a 3-0 win over the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers Wednesday in the Division II sectional semifinals.

The Lady Pointers began the winning rally with two outs.

Whitney Morrison drew a walk and Sarah Baise doubled to center and runners were at second and third.

Nekka Mains hit a ground ball and the throw to first went over the first baseman’s head allowing both runners to score.

Mains went to second on the overthrow and took third when Nikki Lewis singled. Lewis stole second and Mains came home when a pop fly fell in for an error.

The rally made a winner of Tara Layne who pitched a five-hitter. She struck out two and did not walk a batter.

Katie Keller and Ashley McCloud combined on a four-hitter for Ironton.

Baise was 2-4 to lead the South Point offense. McCloud went 2-3 for the Lady Tigers.

South Point, 14-7, plays at Portsmouth West Wednesday, May 10, in the sectional finals. The Lady Pointers hosts Wayne, W.Va., Thursday, in a non-league game.

Ironton finishes the season 12-3.
