AID – If the Green Lady Bobcats are playing the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings, two things are certain: the game will be low-scoring, and it will be close.

For the past three seasons, the two teams have played one nail-biter, three this season alone.

All three meetings this season have been one-run games including Monday’s Division III sectional tournament final that saw Green upset the Lady Vikings 1-0.

Green’s Jessica Butler outdueled Symmes Valley’s Candace Sharp. Butler gave up three hits, struck out five, and did not walk a batter. Sharp allowed five hits, fanned six, and walked two.

"We’ve build up a friendly rivalry over the years, so both teams really look forward to playing each other," Green coach Jodi Armstrong said. "We go hard after each other during the game, but after the game we’re all good friends."

Green scored the game’s only run with two outs in the fourth inning when Courtney Moore doubled and Ann Barrett singled.

"We have three seniors who have played all four years, and they stepped it up for us tonight," said Armstrong. "Butler pitched with all of her heart, and Barnett and Moore not only got the only run of the game but made some key defensive plays."

Barrett went 3-for-3. Jennifer Cline and Moore were 1-3.

Tommie Holbrook, Leah Mann, and Sharp all went 1-3 for the three Viking hits.

"Give a lot of credit to Symmes Valley. They have an excellent team that’s well-coached, and some excellent athletes. Sharp and Cortney Scott played excellent games for Symmes Valley," said Armstrong.

Green, 7-7, plays at Portsmouth Notre Dame Wednesday in a league makeup game.
