All of those featured deserve applause for their hard work – even if their names did not appear under the honor students’ headers. This is a moment they all should cherish.

Those who did manage to finish at the top of their class should be especially proud. Most of these students not only earned top grades, they also were involved in many community and extra-curricular activities, making their academic success especially extraordinary.

The Class of 2000 has just about finished its year. Only a couple schools have yet to hold graduation ceremonies. Most Lawrence County seniors have already made plans for college, a job or other opportunity.

But, as they begin their new lives, these special young men and women should feel proud. They have mastered the first of many milestones and have begun their journeys toward careers and adulthood.

The turn of the tassel is truly a new beginning and a time to celebrate success both as a student and as a young adult.

Lawrence County’s seniors should look ahead with hope and confidence and the knowledge that their parents, teachers and communities are proud of their first steps and are looking forward to many more milestones.
