Relay for Life is a celebration of life for the survivors as well as a much-needed way to raise funds to help continue research for a cure. Thanks for the local Relay for Life as well as countless others across our nation, the diagnosis of cancer is no longer a death sentence.

Since last year, the number of participants has almost doubled, with area companies showing tremendous interest and support. However, Relay for Life still needs more teams.

Here is the good news: there still is time to form teams. Teams should consist of at least 10 members and no more than 15. The goal for each team is to raise $1,000.

The relay kicks off with cancer survivors leading everyone around the track in the first lap. Team members then will walk through the night until the next day.

A special moment of the Relay for Life event comes on Friday at 9:30 p.m. when there will be a memorial service for those living with cancer and to remember those who have died of the disease. Hundreds of luminaries will line the track, and each name will be read.

The volunteers who are helping make this year’s relay a success are to be commended for their commitment to finding a cure for cancer in our lifetimes. From the organizers to the teams of individuals who will walk and remember during the night, everyone has done a superb job.

Teamwork can truly work miracles.

And, Relay for Life is one of those wonderful miracles.

There is still time to register your team. Call Karen Roach at 532-1441 and put on your walking shoes.

We all will be better for it.
