Academic stars abound in city, too

There has been much talk over the past few weeks about the high quality of Ironton’s athletic programs. And, there is no question, the Fighting Tigers are something of which this community should be very proud.

But as we cheer on the sports teams who excel, so, too, should we celebrate the young men and women who make us proud in the classroom – and sometimes on the playing field, too.

There are many Ironton High School seniors who received their diplomas earlier this month and earned the distinction of being recognized for their superior academic performance.

These graduates excelled in the classroom throughout their high school careers and earned spots in the freshman classes of some of the best universities in the country.

And these are in addition to the underclassmen who also posted excellent grades for the year.

As much as the city cheers for its first-rate athletic program, so, too, should there be as much recognition and applause for those who have earned their spots on the district’s academic all-star squad.

No district is perfect. Administrators and teachers admit that there is still much the schools and students need to work on to continue improving. And, hopefully, that work will continue.

In the meantime, three cheers for the IHS academic team. They deserve varsity letters, too. abound in city, too
