Emergency dispatchers confirmed the boy’s body had been found in the vicinity of Ohio 217 and Ohio 775.

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department and county Coroner Burton Payne were en route to the scene, dispatchers said.

No other information was available before press time.

Windsor Volunteer Fire Department crews leading the search called out assistance from Coal Grove Volunteer Fire Department members with a boat about 6:30 a.m., said Don Mootz, Lawrence County 911 director.

Windsor also received assistance from Rome Township, Lawrence Township, Proctorville and Chesapeake departments.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies and water patrol crews were on the scene from Tuesday until Wednesday afternoon.

Crews have had to battle high water that is muddy, which made the search difficult, Sheriff Roy Smith said.

Search and rescue teams the fire departments, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and sheriff’s department were called out early Tuesday afternoon to search downstream of the old covered bridge at County Road 67 and Ohio 217 after his mother phoned 911.

The boy might have been playing near Indian-Guyan Creek, which was out of its banks in several locations Tuesday, dispatchers said.
