The quality of animals showed that this year’s 4-H club members spent a great deal of time making sure their entries represented the best work they could possibly do.

And they made the judges’ jobs extremely difficult.

Best of all, this year’s fair was notable in the good sportsmanship, cooperation and all-around classy behavior of all of the competitors and their families.

There was disappointment for some who did not take home the top prizes, but the losers and the winners treated each other with respect and celebrated each other’s victories, no matter how their own project placed.

Every parent of every participant in this year’s fair competitions should be proud. Their children represented their clubs – and their families – well.

If you have some time this weekend and a little extra money to spare, come down to the 4-H livestock auction, which will be held Saturday at the fairgrounds in Proctorville.

Bid on some animals and help out a program that has been a positive part of many county children’s lives for years.

It will be money well-spent.
