If you were looking for a girls softball all-star team, Lawrence County could just about provide three teams itself.

A total of 26 girls from Lawrence County were named to the all-district softball team by the district coaches association.

Four of the selections were named All-Ohio, and one area coach was honored as well.

Six girls were named to the Division III first or second all-district team with an additional two chosen honorable mention.

Heading the list in Division III was Symmes Valley’s senior pitcher Candace Sharp who was voted the district’s co-player of the year along with Sharie Betts of Zane Trace.

Green’s Jodi Armstrong was named the coach of the year after guiding the Lady Bobcats to a second straight regional appearance.

Sharp joined Bettis as first team All-Ohio selections while Green’s senior pitcher Jessica Butler was honorable mention All-Ohio.

Sharp and Butler were joined on the all-district first team by Symmes Valley senior Cortney Scott and Green senior Courtney Moore.

On the district second team were Green senior Ann Barrett and junior Erika Bradley.

Honorable mention picks included Symmes Valley senior Renea Donahoe and freshman Tommie Holbrook.

The Division II team produced enough local players to field two teams.

Nine local players were selected to the all-district team first or second team, and another nine players were picked to the honorable mention list.

Leading the way for the local players was first team pick Kim Frye of Chesapeake. The junior pitcher was a second team All-Ohio choice.

Fairland senior pitcher JoAnn Harmon was first team all-district and honorable mention All-Ohio.

Rock Hill senior third baseman Amanda Mays and South Point junior pitcher Tara Layne were first team all-district.

On the district second team were Ironton senior shortstop Nicole King and sophomore outfielder Carly Isaac, Fairland sophomore infielder Brooke Fisher, Chesapeake junior Jessica Rice, and South Point junior Whitney Morrison.

The honorable mention list includes Chesapeake juniors Kristin Huff and Shelli White, Fairland sophomore Jeana Diamond and freshman Jennifer Jones, Ironton sophomore Rachel McClellan and freshman Ashley McCloud, Rock Hill junior Tia Russell, and South Point junior Nekka Mains and sophomore Sara Baise.

The Division I player of the year was Courtney Kostiral of Athens. Co-coaches of the year were Athens’ Christy Daugherty and Warren’s Sheila Coffman.
