Portsmouth Raceway Park will play host to the sixth annual Fred Dillow Memorial Race Saturday, Aug. 19.

Dillow, one of the best-known and favorite race car drivers, began racing in 1968 at tracks in Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. He retired in 1988 due to being diagnosed with Leukemia. He passed away in December of 1990 and this race has been held in his memory since.

Dillow’s brother Ken, of Flatwoods, and nephew Carl Dillow will both be on hand for the race. Some of the local drivers expected to attend include Tim Robinson, Todd Robinson, John Melvin, R.J. Conley, Dave Jenkins, Craig Leist, Eddie Harmon, Billy Dement, Kenny Christy and Leslie Boggs.

Bonus cash will be awarded to drivers and prizes will be given away to fans. "The Dawg" 93.7 FM will also be on hand.

Previous winners of the event include: 1995 Barry Bragdon, 1996-97 Jack "Black Jack" Boggs, 1998 Shawn Holliday and last year’s winner was R.J. Conley.

Divisions expected to repeat are Late Models, Modifieds, Street Stocks and Bombers. Hot laps begin at 6:30 p.m. and racing begins at 7:30 p.m. Price of admission for adults 16 and up are $10, children ages 12-15 $5, ages 7-11 $2 and ages 0-6 are free. Pit passes are $20.

The track is located one half mile off U.S. 52 on Ohio 73.
