Barry Bonds homered twice to top 40 for the fourth time in his career as San Francisco won its sixth straight by blanking the Philadelphia Phillies 3-0.
The Giants, who have a season-high 5 1/2-game lead over Arizona in the NL West, have a major league-leading 13 shutouts.
Bonds hit solo shots in the third Omar Daal (3-17) and in the eighth off Jeff Brantley to give him 41 homers.
Russ Ortiz (12-10) allowed two hits, four walks and struck out five in 6 1-3 innings at San Francisco, winning his seventh consecutive decision. Robb Nen got three outs for his 34th save.
Cardinals 4, Expos 2
Pat Hentgen pitched seven scoreless innings and Edgar Renteria hit a bases-loaded triple off Javier Vazquez (8-7).
Hentgen (14-10) allowed seven hits and three walks as St. Louis reached a season-high 21 games over .500. The Cardinals have won 15 of their last 19 and are 4-0 on the homestand.
The visiting Expos have lost eight of 11 and are a season-low 22 games below .500.
Pirates 12, Dodgers 1
Brian Giles hit a grand slam in the second and Pat Meares also homered as visiting Pittsburgh stretched a winning streak to four for just the third time this season.
Jimmy Anderson (5-8) pitched his first complete game in 47 major league starts, scattering 10 hits en route to his first victory in six outings since beating the Dodgers on Aug. 1. He also had two hits, including an RBI single that capped a seven-run sixth.
Rockies 6, Cubs 2
Rookie Juan Pierre went 5-for-5 and Todd Walker fell a single short of the cycle at Coors Field.
Walker, who had three RBIs, and Todd Hollandsworth each homered for the Rockies. Todd Helton was 0-for-4, dropping his major league-leading average to .387.
Marlins 5, Astros 2
Chuck Smith tied his career high with 11 strikeouts, and Preston Wilson drove in three runs for visiting Florida.
Smith (4-5) allowed five hits and two walks in eight innings. He retired 13 of 14 batters between the first and fifth. Antonio Alfonseca pitched the ninth for his 39th save in 43 chances.
Chris Holt (6-14) allowed five runs – four earned – and 10 hits in seven innings.
Padres 4, Brewers 3
The Padres overcame a 3-2 deficit in the eighth against Ray King (1-2) when, with runners on second and third, Ruben Rivera hit an RBI infield single to third that Tyler Houston threw wildly past first, allowing Mike Darr to score with the go-ahead run.
Tom Davey (1-0), recalled from the minors before the game, pitched a one-hit eighth, and Trevor Hoffman had a 1-2-3 ninth for his 36th save.
Houston had given visiting Milwaukee a 3-2 lead in the sixth with a three-run homer off rookie Brian Tollberg.
