GETAWAY – Collins Career Center administrators, board officials and staff broke ground this week on a new administration building.
The estimated $300,000 project will move the vocational education center’s administrative staff into a new home, plus provide additional space for a new distance learning lab.
"It’s just always a sign of progress when you see new earth turn over, so we’re really excited about this new administration building," said superintendent Perry Walls, just minutes before board members grabbed for the shovels Thursday.
The groundbreaking, held on meet-the-staff night, also marked the beginning of classwork for several career center programs – even though some work on the new building has already begun.
Students in carpentry, electrical, heating and air conditioning and agriculture programs will work on the building project, putting their classwork to use, Walls said.
"They’re taking a lot of pride in it."
