Herman, a senior for the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers, placed 26th in the Division II regional cross country meet Saturday.

Although Herman missed going to the state meet, she still managed to establish a new girls school record with a 21:05 time. Her record run eclipsed the old mark set by Kelli Palmer.

The top 15 runners advance to the state meet along with the top four teams. Qualifying teams were Circleville with 106 points, Dover with 116, McConnelsville Morgan 121, and Martins Ferry 138.

Martins Ferry had three runners among the top 15 including senior Mandy Bruney (20:37), junior Katrina Jones (20:38), and freshman Amy Bruney (20:46). Mandy and Amy Bruney are the daughters of Martins Ferry assistant coach Bill Bruney and the nieces of head football coach Dave Bruney.

The Bruneys are cousins of former Ironton head football coach Bob Bruney.
