Family and friends are holding the run to raise money for Mike Hopper’s upcoming medical treatments, Glen Hopper said.

"We’re doing this for my brother’s boy (Vic Hopper’s son)," he said. "He’s been diagnosed with leukemia and needs a bone marrow transplant. This event will be to raise money for this expensive treatment."

He said Mike was diagnosed with the cancer last spring.

"As of right now, there is a national search for bone marrow because his brothers have all been tested and haven’t matched his," he said.

"Peddler’s Row will be setting up a stand and selling food during the day," he said. "We’ll have hamburgers, hot dogs, Bahama Mamas and drinks available for people to buy. My understanding is that (Peddler’s Row) will be donating the money from the sale of the food to the fund-raiser."

Roger Gustin’s jet funny car will also be on display, he added.

And several local bands will provide live music.

"There’ll be guitars, fiddles, the whole works," Hopper said. "I’m not sure exactly what type of music they will be playing, but there will be something for everyone."

"There will be shows and performances on motorcycles," he said. "And, of course, there’s the poker run. It will be simple compared to a lot of others that are ran."

Sign-ups for participation in the poker run will begin at 11 a.m., with the ride leaving at noon, Hopper said.

"The cost is $10 per person," he said. "The best hand winners of the motorcycle and ATV run will win a leather jacket. We will be awarding other winners with hats and T-shirts."

Spectators will also get a chance to take something home, he added.

"We will also be selling raffle tickets for door prizes," Hopper said. "Drawing will begin at 4 p.m. We will have something for everyone. Donations will also be accepted throughout the day."

The fund-raiser will be held directly across from Vic’s Bait Shop in Hanging Rock on Cemetery Road.
