The youthful South Point Lady Pointers continued their improvement and knocked off the Wayne Lady Pioneers 31-21 Thursday for their first win of the season.

"The girls have worked hard and the hard work is paying off," Pointers coach John McClung said. "We’re starting to see progress. It’s slow, but it’s coming."

Allison Perdue had 11 points and 11 rebounds to lead the win. Sara Stevens grabbed 11 rebounds and had five steals.

South Point, 1-4, went up 7-4 the first quarter before Wayne tied the game at the half, 14-14.

The Lady Pointers held Wayne to just two points the third quarter to go ahead 23-16, then made 4-of-6 at the foul line down the stretch – Perdue was 3-of-4 – to secure the win.

"We just held the ball at the end and ran some time off and they had to foul. We made them and that helped keep them from making a run," McClung said.

Rachel Hunt had eight pints to lead Wayne.
