"Ironton with the ball. The shot is up and no good."

And so it went all night as the Ironton Fighting Tigers missed shot after shot in a 55-39 loss to the Wayne Pioneers.

Ironton made only 15-of-55 field goal attempts for 27.3 percent. Included in that total was a stone cold 0-for-20 from behind the 3-point line.

"With or without Isaac (Hannon), we had plenty of good looks. We lost that game ourselves because we didn’t play as a team. I’m extremely disappointed," Ironton coach Chris Barnes said.

"We didn’t screen the boards and we had turnovers in the open court that shouldn’t have happened. The 3s we took were wide open. They were uncontested shots. We should be able to make a few shots."

Despite the poor shooting, Ironton trailed just 43-37 with 2:55 to play when Andrew Harvey hit a layup.

But Ironton began to shoot one 3-pointer after another and the result was 0-for-10 from long range. Wayne (1-3) made 6-of-11 from the foul line and added three layups in the process as it began to open up the lead.

The Fighting Tigers (4-2) had just one lead in the game, 4-2 on a baseline jumper by Josh Harmon at the 5:47 mark of the first quarter.

Wayne led 14-10 after the first quarter and was up 24-16 with time running out in the half. A 3-point play by Harmon with 37 seconds left made it 24-19 at the break.

Tommy Lutz hit a layup and two foul shots to begin the second half and get Ironton within 24-23. But the Fighting Tigers were just 2-of-11 from the field in the quarter and Wayne went in front 33-26.

The cold shooting continued the fourth quarter as Ironton hit 6-of-21 from the floor.

Lutz led Ironton with 13 points and seven rebounds. Harmon finished with 10 points and five rebounds while Josh Sands came off the bench to grab eight rebounds.

Josh Pasley had 11 points while Tracy Jackson, Aaron Farley, and William Clagg scored 10 each to lead Wayne.

Hannon, Ironton’s leading scorer, missed the game due to an illness.
