FRANKLIN FURNACE – "Come Together Right Now Over Me." That’s the chorus line to the song "Come Together." The Beatles played it. John Lennon sang it. And the Green Bobcats are living it.

Green’s cohesive play helped generate a 59-41 Southern Ohio Conference Div. I win over the Symmes Valley Vikings Friday night.

"Overall, it was a great team effort. I’m really pleased with the way the came together. They really played with a passion that they wanted to be successful," Green coach Kevin Lewis said.

The win not only improved Green’s record to 5-5, but left the Bobcats tied with Beaver Eastern for first place at 5-1. Green is 5-5 overall.

Alex Poe had 18 points and six rebounds. Ben Dyer scored 14 and had five assists.

Symmes Valley, 6-2 and 3-2, was led by Drew Hunt with 14 points while Justin Myers scored 11 points.

"Hunt did a nice job for them the second half. He shot the ball extremely well and kept them in it," said Lewis.

Green held a 31-25 rebound advantage and shot 19-of-42 from the field for 45.2 percent. Symmes Valley was just 15-of-51 for 29.4 percent.

"Our inside game did an excellent job of winning the rebound war. Offensively we did a good job taking the ball to the basket. We basically played six people and they all found a way to contribute. It’s the first time this year we’ve had four people in double figures. Kyle Dyer had only two points, but he had 15 rebounds, and Brad Bainer had a great game defensively," said Lewis.

Symmes Valley coach Alvin Carpenter said the Vikings cold-shooting was a key factor in the loss.

"They played well and we missed too many outside shots," Carpenter said. "They did everything they needed to do to beat us. Our guys never quit, we just didn’t make shots."

Green took a 13-6 first quarter lead as Ben Dyer hit a pair of 3-pointers. Yarnell scored six points the second quarter as the Green took a 26-16 halftime lead.

Poe scored 10 points the third quarter to offset three 3-pointers by Hunt and the Bobcats were ahead 42-33.

Green connected on 11 straight free throws down the stretch to seal the win. Poe was 4-of-6, Jacob Yarnell 3-of-4, and Ben Dyer 3-of-6.

"The fourth quarter was big. This game was closer than the score indicates. With four minutes left, we put the game on ice and we went to the free throw line. The first two trips we were unsuccessful, but we were able to go to the line and do a nice job," said Lewis.

"Our offensive execution was far and away the best its been all year."

Carpenter had nothing but praise for the Bobcats.

"They played well and we missed too many outside shots," Vikings coach Alvin Carpenter said. "They did everything they needed to do to beat us. Our guys never quit, we just didn’t make shots."
