Any time a goal is exceeded, it is an accomplishment that should be heralded. When the result of that goal exceeded helps others, however, it is even more special.

With this in mind, hats off to the United Way of the River Cities for raising $169,731.86 in its Lawrence County campaign. The figure is $19,731.86 more than this year’s goal of $150,000 and $27,405.82 more than the $142,326.04 raised in last year’s campaign.

The volunteers of the United Way of the River Cities deserve praise for carrying out this fund-raising drive. Because of their efforts, agencies will have additional revenue to invest in the community.

By the same token, those businesses and individuals contributing to the cause should be commended as well. Without their generosity, exceeding this goal would not have been possible.

It is people like this who know that when you invest in the community, you are investing in yourself.
