PROCTORVILLE – Going deep. A little hot stove home run talk? No, this going deep is all about depth. As in the Fairland Lady Dragons bench.

Fairland used a strong bench to pull away from the Rock Hill Redwomen Monday in a showdown for first place in the Ohio Valley Conference.

"That’s a real big win. Our bench played exceptionally well. They came in and picked us up a few times," Fairland coach Nathan Speed said.

"We thought we could wear them down. That’s what we set out to do going into the game. The first half we didn’t attack very well, so the second half we did a better job attacking the basket. Brooke (Fisher) and Brooke (Godby) did a good job of that and we got some good transition baskets."

Fairland is now 11-1 overall but more importantly 4-0 in the OVC. Rock Hill falls to 9-4 and 3-1.

Another key game will be played Thursday as Fairland visits Chesapeake.

"It’s a tough place to play. We just have to try and match their intensity. It’ll be another great ball game," Speed said.

Jeana Diamond had 13 points and nine rebounds to lead a balanced Fairland attack. Godby had 11 points and three assists, Fisher 11 points and eight assists, and Jennifer Jones 11 points.

Jordan Edwards scored 17 points to pace Rock Hill while Bobbie Clark scored 13.

A slow start had Fairland up 6-5 after the first quarter. Diamond then scored seven points the second quarter as Fairland took a 21-19 halftime lead.

Edwards came back to score eight points the third quarter as Rock Hill went ahead 34-32. Edwards had eight more points the fourth quarter, but Fisher scored eight and the Lady Dragons connected on 7-of-9 from the line down the stretch including Fisher who was 4-of-4 to clinch the win.
