After being tied at the half, the Lady Panthers scored just 14 points the second half and lost 54-36 to the Portsmouth Lady Trojans.

"Every game we’ve lost, we’ve been flat. We feed off each other. We need to play with emotion. And defensively we didn’t play well," Chesapeake coach Chad Belville said. "We came out flat and they played well. They came out and took it to us."

Courtney Clifford scored seven points the first quarter as Portsmouth jumped out to an 11-3 lead.

But Kim Frye hit two 3-pointers, Emily Delimpo had seven of her nine points, and the Lady Panthers converted 7-of-10 free throws to outscore Portsmouth 19-11 the second quarter and tie the game 22-22 at the break.

"The second quarter we played really hard and got even at the half, and I thought we survived their run. I thought we’d be all right the second half," Belville said.

Lisa Perry hit a 3-pointer to put Chesapeake up 27-24, but it was all Portsmouth from that point on. The Lady Trojans hit two straight baskets to go up 28-27 and never trailed again.

Larika McGinnis scored 12 of her 14 points the second half as Portsmouth outscored Chesapeake 32-14 the final two quarters.

"(McGinnis) shut us down inside the second half. She was a big difference in the game," Belville said.

Delimpo led Chesapeake (7-7) with nine points. Michelle Elkins had seven rebounds and Perry handed out five assists.

Clifford led all scorers with 18 points.

The Lady Panthers (3-1 OVC) host Fairland Thursday in a key conference game.
