FRANKLIN FURNACE – Taking the good with the bad.

In the case of the Green Bobcats, good was in the way they played. The bad was the fact it wasn’t good enough as they lost 51-46 to the Minford Falcons Tuesday in a non-league game.

"If you can lose a game and be pleased, this was it. We competed and had our chances. It’s the kind of game that should make us better down the stretch and in the tournament," Green coach Kevin Lewis said.

Alex Poe and Ben Dyer scored 13 points each to lead Green (8-6). Poe had seven rebounds and three assists, Dyer had three assists, and Kyle Dyer had eight rebounds.

Eli Parkes scored 13 points for Minford (11-5) followed by Jeremy Frazee with 12 and Andrew Shonkwiler with 10.

Minford was up 10-9 the first quarter, but Jacob Yarnell scored six of his eight points the second quarter to offset a pair of 3-pointers by Parkes and Green trailed just 24-21 at the half.

"Every shot was contested. Every point was magnified and earned. A big part of the game was in the second quarter when we lost Parkes two straight times down the floor and he was able to hit 3s on back-to-back possession," said Lewis.

Brad Bainer got five points to match Shonkwiler in the third quarter as Green cut the deficit to 33-31.

Ben Dyer had six points the fourth quarter, but Jeremy Frazee got seven points as Minford held on for the win.

It was a 3-pointer by Shonkwiler from the corner with 1:30 to play that gave Minford a four-point lead, and Frazee made 3-of-4 from the line down the stretch.

"Shonkwiler hit a big shot, but other than that it was a good ball game. The first half their team speed surprised us. We adjusted to their speed better the second half. We had 12 of our turnovers the first half," said Lewis.

The Bobcats had 18 turnovers for the game.
