River Valley Health System’s shutdown has quickened a neighboring hospital’s plans to place a patient care center in Ironton.
King’s Daughters Medical Center will open a center on Seventh Street on Monday, spokesperson Julie Marsh said.
"We had looked at building a family care center in Ironton but in light of the RVHS situation, we have hastened those plans," Mrs. Marsh said.
KDMC rented an office building a couple of blocks away from River Valley and has been remodeling it to meet the needs of patients, she said.
The center will be staffed with a doctor to start things off, but KDMC has plans to place a permanent physician there, Mrs. Marsh added.
"It will start off with a family doctor type of care," she said.
The name of the building’s owner was not available at presstime.
If King’s Daughters had waited to construct a care center, it would have delayed the offering of services, Mrs. Marsh said.
