This time there weren’t nearly 35 fouls called on the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers. But there were 35 of something else.

The Lady Tigers forced the Raceland Lady Rams into 35 turnovers en route to a 95-43 thrashing Monday at the Ironton Sports Center.

Ironton had nearly every starter foul out in a 59-55 win at Raceland in December. This time only 25 total fouls were called in the game and Ironton’s defense provided the difference.

"It was another great team effort by everybody," Ironton coach Kevin Richardson said. "Our pressure on defense forced them into a lot of mistakes

"But there are no easy ones from here on out. We finish with Chesapeake and they’re playing well, and then we go to Fairland who has only lost one game and beat us early in the year, and then it’s tournament time."

Helping to make things easy for Ironton were Jessica Ensor and Noelle Mains.

Ensor had 29 points and 10 steals to go along with four rebounds and five assists. Mains scored 21 points and handed out 14 assists plus five steals.

Sarah Herman had a big game with 20 points and six rebounds while Ashley Hannon added 14 points and five rebounds.

Sam Rigsby scored 10 points and Allison Sargent nine to lead Raceland.

The Lady Fighting Tigers took a 14-8 first quarter lead, then exploded for 32 points the second quarter to build a 46-15 halftime cushion.

The lead ballooned to 68-34 after three quarters and then Ironton outscored the hapless Lady Rams 27-9 the final quarter.
