WILLOW WOOD – Whatever it takes. Down but not out, the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings rallied in the fourth quarter to nip the South Gallia Lady Rebels 38-37 Thursday on a pair of free throws by Melissa Thompson.

"The girls deserve all the credit. They did everything they needed to do the fourth quarter to win. They played well as a team," Lady Vikings coach Rob Bess said. "It seemed everyone contributed something even if they didn’t score. Hopefully this will give us a boost going into the tournament."

Symmes Valley trailed by six midway through the fourth quarter. But South Gallia was 1-of-5 from the line down the stretch and the Lady Vikings were 6-of-6. Jessica Myers and Dusty Martin each made 2-of-2 along with Thompson.

The Lady Vikings had the ball with 19 seconds and trailing by one. Thompson was fouled with five seconds left and she sank both shots to put Symmes Valley ahead.

South Gallia got one final chance but turned the ball over with 1.4 seconds left and Symmes Valley ran out the clock on the inbounds play to end the game.

Keren Bell had 10 points and five rebounds while Anna Bodmer scored 10 points to lead the Symmes Valley offense. Thompson had seven rebounds, Ginny Young six, and Myers six.

Stacy White scored 14 to lead the Rebels.

Symmes Valley won despite shooting 11-of-57 from the field for 19.3 percent. South Gallia was only 15-of-30 from the foul line.
