Nobody likes to hear the words taxes or fees, but sometimes they are essential.
On Tuesday, Ironton City Council had to make a tough decision and enact a temporary municipal fee. Unfortunately, imposing the fee seems to be the only thing the city can do to avoid a major budget shortfall.
Ironton’s current financial situation is not a result of poor management – the culprit is the economy. As the city continues to lose major employers, budget woes are sure to follow.
The $2.50 monthly municipal fee is a small price to pay to ensure the city can keep offering services to the public. Hopefully the end result of council’s plan to address the budget shortfall will avert future financial problems.
