PROCTORVILLE – Maybe the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers do have some depth. They used their roster in a triangular co-ed meet Tuesday and managed to squeak out a one-point win over Wellston with host Fairland a close third.

"We gave some of the younger kids a chance. We wanted to win, but we felt it was more important to get them some experience. We were pleased with their efforts," Ironton Lady Tigers coach Tim Thomas said.

Ironton had 54 points, Wellston 53, and Fairland 45. In the boys meet, Wellston edged Ironton by nine points. Wellston had 65 points, Ironton 56, and Fairland 40.

"Basically, we did the same thing the girls tried to do, we just came up a few points short. But our young kids did well," Ironton coach Greg Cronacher said.

For the Lady Tigers, Marlie Ford was a double winner as she took first in the long jump with a leap of 13-9 and ran an even one minute in the 300 hurdles. Christy Lilly won the high jump at 4-6 and Sarah Herman was first in the 800 with a 2:44 clocking.

Ironton also won the 4×100 and 4×800 relays. In the boys meet, Erique Bacon, a senior, and brother Derique Bacon, a freshman, posted wins. Erique won the shot put with a heave of 45-2 and Derique took the high jump as he cleared 5-2.

Mark Gleichauf, who was second in the shot put, won the discus with a toss of 133-3. Seth Lewis took first in the 800 meter run with a 2:15 clocking.

The Fighting Tigers other first place finish was in the 4×400 relay. Ironton is at the Chesapeake Lions Club meet at 5 p.m. Friday.
