Unable to moved runners into scoring position or get them home, Ironton lost 4-1 Tuesday to Wheelersburg.

"What hurt us was the failure to execute. We left too many runners on base. We didn’t bunt well or move the runners," said Ironton assistant coach Joe Terry.

"Our defense has played well the past few games and we played well again (Tuesday)."

Ironton broke the scoreless tie with a run in the top of the fourth.

Ashley McCloud singled, moved up on a passed ball, took third on a wild pitch, and score on a sacrifice fly by Laura Oaks.

Wheelersburg got a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game, then scored three times in the fifth to get the win.

Melissa Cielec, Rachel McClellan, and McCloud all went 1-for-3 for Ironton.

McCloud went the distance in taking the loss. She struck out five, walked two, and gave up just five hits.

The Lady Tigers, 4-6, were off Wednesday but hosts Chesapeake Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
