The South Point Lady Pointers got a major scare from the Coal Grove Lady Hornets, but held on for a 3-2 win to remain tied for first place in the Ohio Valley Conference race.

South Point is 15-2 overall and tied with Fairland for first place in the OVC at 7-1.

Fairland kept pace in the league race with an 8-0 win over Rock Hill (see page 12).

Tara Layne fashioned a 3-hitter to get the win. Ashley Dickess gave up just seven hits in suffering the loss.

Brandi Thacker went 2-for-2 and Nikki Layne 2-for-3 to lead the South Point offense.

Boys Div. II sectional

In the boys Division II sectional baseball tournament, the Fairland Dragons will play top-seeded Portsmouth.

Fairland (8-4) will play at Portsmouth (10-6) Monday, May 7. In the other bracket, Northwest will travel to second-seeded Jackson (13-4).

The two winners will square off on Friday, May 11, with the winner advancing to the district tournament.

All games start at 5 p.m.
