The shooting happened at the Dalton’s home, located at 2016 S. Ninth St., in Ironton, Monday evening around 6 p.m.

Acting police chief Chris Bowman said Shirley Dalton was shot in the back with a 12 gauge shotgun after an alleged domestic dispute.

Earlier this week, officers were investigating the shooting incident, but could not interview Mrs. Dalton due to her medical condition.

Bowman said officers were able to speak to Mrs. Dalton for the first time last night and after their interview with the victim, they arrested Mr. Dalton. According to Bowman, Tommy Dalton was arrested without incident.

He is currently being held in the Lawrence County Jail and has been charged with attempted aggravated murder.

He will appear in Ironton Municipal Court for arraignment later today.

Mrs. Dalton is being treated for her injuries at King’s Daughters’ Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. She is listed in serious condition, according to a hospital spokesperson.
