Tommy Dalton appeared in Ironton Municipal Court Thursday morning on charges of attempted aggravated murder.
Dalton was not represented by an attorney at the hearing and city municipal judge Clark Collins appointed Ironton lawyer Donald L. McWhorter to represent the accused.
Bond was discussed at the hearing and city attorney Mack Anderson requested Dalton’s bond to be set at $50,000 cash or $100,000 property which was approved by the judge.
Dalton was arrested Wednesday evening at his home by Ironton Police officers for allegedly shooting his wife, 52-year-old Shirley Dalton, in the back with a 12-gauge shotgun Monday night during a domestic dispute. The shooting occurred at the Dalton’s home, located at 2016 S. Ninth St., in Ironton, Monday evening around 6 p.m.
Police officers were able to speak to Mrs. Dalton for the first time Wednesday night and after their interview with the victim, they arrested Mr. Dalton.
Mr. Dalton is scheduled to reappear in the city’s court for a preliminary hearing next Thursday at 9 a.m.
Mrs. Dalton, meanwhile, is still listed in serious condition at King’s Daughters’ Medical Center.
