The South Point Lady Pointers climbed into a first place tie with the Fairland Lady Dragons in the Ohio Valley Conference race Friday with a 16-2 win over the Coal Grove Hornets.

South Point and Fairland are both 9-2 in the OVC. Each team has one league game remaining with Rock Hill. The Lady Pointers are 19-4 overall.

Tara Layne pitched a four-hitter for the win and the Lady Pointers banged out 13 hits. Nikki Layne and Katherine Johnson each went 3-for-5, and Whitney Morrison 2-for-6.

South Point took a 5-0 lead in the first, added two in the third, and two more in the fourth before Coal Grove got a pair in the bottom of the fourth.

South Point plays at Jackson Wednesday in the Division II sectional tournament.

Games postponed

PROCTORVILLE – A doubleheader betweenRock Hill and Fairland was postponed Friday when Rock Hill was unable to obtain transportation.

Since OVC rules require all league games be played, the games will be rescheduled at a later date.
