Area teams ready for district play

The regular season is over, but there’s still a lot of baseball and softball to be played thanks to tournament games.

The Southeast has three district tournaments with semifinal games being played Monday and Tuesday and the championship games of each bracket on Friday. All games begin at 5 p.m.

In the top bracket at the University of Rio Grande, Wheelersburg will play Federal Hocking on Monday and then Ironton faces Minford on Tuesday.

At Jackson, Zane Trace plays Nelsonville-York Monday with South Point going against Paint Valley on Tuesday.

The lower backet at Wellston has Adena playing Southeastern Monday and Unioto meeting Westfall on Tuesday.

District winners will advance to the regionals to be played at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe. The Rio Grande winner will play the Jackson winner while the Wellston winner faces the Warsaw winner in the semifinals Friday, May 25. The championship games are Saturday, May 26.

Also, the South Point Ohio Valley Conference game against Coal Grove originally scheduled Monday will not be played.

Two area teams remain alive in girls softball.

Fairland, 19-2, advances to the district tournament at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, at Rio Grande while South Point plays at 5 p.m. Monday at Waverly.
