The Pointers held off defending champion Chesapeake in the boys meet while Rock Hill fought off the Chesapeake Lady Panthers.

South Point had 140 points and Chesapeake 127 in what proved to be a two-team race.

The Pointers got some help from the baseball team. Jarred Perdue, a starter for the baseball team, scored big Friday.

Perdue came up big with a first place finish in the high jump at 6-foot-4, and also won the 200 meter dash with a 22.9 clocking. He was second in the 100 meter dash behind teammate Donte Pennington.

Pennington, a junior, was the meet’s high point winner with 22 points. He won the 100 in 10.8 seconds and the 400 at 52.3 while taking third in the 200 meters. He also ran a leg on the winning 4×100 relay team.

Chesapeake’s Ryan Slone had 20 points to finish second in the high point honors race.

Rock Hill was led by sophomore Rachel Hartwig who racked up 30 points that included three first-place finishes.

The Redwomen had 99 points with Chesapeake totaling 90. Fairland was third with 67 followed by Coal Grove with 48 and South Point had 28.

Hartwig won the 1600 (5:48.6), the 400 (1:04.5), and the 800 (2:32.7), and finished second in the 3200 behind Fairland’s Chelsea Walls.
