The watch is for this afternoon through late tonight.

Reports were still coming in this morning, but heavy overnight rains affected at least two Lawrence County roadways.

Lawrence County Emergency Services officials reported high water problems on County Road 128, Rock Hollow Road.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department dispatchers reported that water covered Ohio 93 at the 12-mile marker overnight. Water was expected to recede today.

The National Weather Service in Charleston, W.Va., reported heavy rainfall in the Huntington, W.Va., area, including exceptionally heavy downpours in southeastern Lawrence County and in Boyd County, Ky.

The Tri-State will get a break with sunny skies today, but a stalled warm front over western Ohio will likely send more rain into the area late this afternoon and this evening, meteorologists said.

Heavy rain tonight could cause localized flooding. County emergency services officials caution motorists not to drive through standing water, and residents should take shelter in case of high water.

Forecasters expect showers and thunderstorms to continue on Friday. Highs will be around 80.

The extended forecast calls for showers Friday night, clear or cloudy through the weekend, with a chance of rain returning by Monday. Highs will remain in the mid-70s.
