A veteran of the Ironton Police Department, he will take over for the retired Rodney McFarland. Previously, Chief Garland served as a captain on the force. He was appointed chief because he had the highest score on the Civil Service examination among the three candidates vying for the position.

The new chief said his top priorities are bringing the department up to date and, in the future, adding more officers to the force as money becomes available.

We would like to congratulate Chief Garland on his appointment and wish him success in his ventures as he leads the Ironton Police Department into the millennium.
