A contract has been awarded for the Lake Vesuvius work, the forest said Tuesday.

The contract was awarded to T-C Inc. of Indianapolis, Ind., for just over $3.7 million, which met with positive reaction from forestry officials.

"We had engineering estimates in hand, and everybody is really happy about this bid and contract," said Becky Ewing, fisheries biologist at the Wayne’s Ironton ranger station. Ms. Ewing is overseeing some grant work on the project.

Workers with T-C Inc. will begin moving in equipment and materials in late July, really about one month from the June 27 bid award, Ms. Ewing said.

The work is expected to take up to 10 months, and should be completed by June 1, 2002.
