If you’re a female college student ready to take on new material, you might just be female college basketball material.
The start of the Ohio University Southern Campus women’s basketball team means first-year head coach Beth Rist will need some players, and they’ll get their chance at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at the Ironton Sports Center.
Rist will conduct a shoot around at the high school in order to give female basketball hopefuls a chance to join the program.
"This is going to be a building year, but we want to competitive. This is a great chance for girls who want to play college basketball but still stay close to home," Rist said.
OUSC plans to schedule 10 to 15 games this season and increase that number next year.
The men’s basketball program will begin its fifth season this fall. Ron Reed will be in his second season as the head coach.
Any Ohio University Southern Campus students interested in playing should contact Rist, Reed or athletic director Harry Weinbrecht at 740-533-4542.
