The Ohio University Southern Equine Program, in partnership with the Buckeye Southern Quarter Horse Association, has achieved a major accomplishment in bringing an American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) sanctioned show to the community, OUSC dean Dr. Dan Evans said in a recent letter to university family and friends.

Because of strict AQHA regulations and demand for shows across the country, only a few full shows were approved this year, Evans said.

Ohio’s only new full show will take place Aug. 18-19, Saturday and Sunday, at the Ohio Horse Park in Franklin Furnace, beginning at 9 a.m. each day. The Ohio Horse Park Barbecue is also scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday for university family and friends, AQHA representatives, local elected officials and show contestants.

Founded in 1995, the 184-acre Ohio Horse Park is home to OUSC Equine Studies classes, horse shows, clinics, seminars and auctions.

The park’s facilities include a 180-feet by 75-feet indoor arena, a 290-feet by 120-feet lighted outdoor arena, a dressage ring, a 40-stall barn, turn out areas and a breeding facility.
