Students at Symmes Valley Elementary are no exception. Through a food-drive sponsored by the school’s student council, 4,031 non-perishable food items were collected and donated to the Salvation Army. This is no small task, given Symmes Valley is one of the smallest schools in our county.

Our hats are off to the school’s students, faculty and parents who made this venture such a success. Their generosity, motivation and sheer compassion for their fellow man are commendable.

Many other schools, organizations and individuals throughout the county also have donated to the cause. We salute you as well.

Tragedy is never something you want to see, but witnessing young people reach out and touch those they have never met is about as inspiring as it gets.
