The Fighting Tigers, a regular participant in the post season, made it once again this year, with a perfect 10-0 record, placing first in Division IV, Region 15. Ironton has also been at the top of the Associated Press coaches’ poll for the better part of the season. When the final poll is announced later this week, the Tigers will likely win their fourth AP poll title.

On Saturday, Ironton will put its undefeated record on the line, hosting Portsmouth West at Tanks Memorial Stadium. This marks the 20th time the Tigers have made it to the post season, third most in state history. Ironton has been crowned state champions twice, winning the 1979 and 1989 titles.

The Panthers, 7-3, finished third in Division V, Region 19. They will host Crooksville, also 7-3, Friday. This is the fourth time Chesapeake has made the playoffs.

Though not making the playoffs, South Point posted an impressive 7-3 record with an undisputed Ohio Valley Conference championship. The Pointers finished OVC play with an unblemished 4-0 record.

Congratulations to all three teams for splendid seasons and good luck to the Tigers and Panthers in the playoffs. We’re behind you all the way!
