Firefighters received a call on a structure fire at 10:13 a.m. yesterday at the home of Edith Daniels located at 2701 S. Sixth St.

Neighbors said Daniels had a broken ankle and that she was unaccounted for. Daniels, however, was at a doctor’s appointment and was out of the home when the fire started.

Apparently, said IFD Capt. Mike Hasenauer, the first officer on the scene, the fire started in the living room and was fully involved when firefighters arrived. Hasenauer said the whole front portion of the house and downstairs was on fire.

The fireman said the house sustained extensive damage but the surrounding houses were not damaged by the heat of the fire.

Firefighters from Coal Grove Volunteer Fire Department provided mutual aid to IFD – supplying air tanks to the city’s firefighters.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
