Less than a month after the election hoopla, the time came for Ironton’s new councilmen to get down to business.

Ironton’s new city councilmen were officially sworn in to office Saturday night at the organizational meeting.

The first order of business for the new council was to make appointments to certain council-controlled positions. Council reappointed Cindy Anderson as finance director, Janet Hieronimus as the council clerk and Bob and Mack Anderson has the city solicitors.

Councilmen also received their committee appointments. Starting with the new council, the finance committee will be composed of council chairman Jesse Roberts as the committee’s chair and council members Richard Price and Brent Pyles. Council newcomer John Elam will chair the council’s public utilities committee, which is also made of fellow council novice Bob Isaac and returnee Richard Price.

The annexation committee will be chaired by Richard Price. Also serving are councilmen Bob Lipker and Jim Tordiff.

The industrial and commercial development committee will be chaired by councilman Brent Pyles. He will be joined by councilmen John Elam and Bob Isaac.

The parks and recreation committee will be chaired by Bob Lipker and also composed of councilmen Bob Isaac and Jim Tordiff.

The city’s finance committee are already gearing up for work. Roberts said the committee will start hashing out a temporary budget for next year and will also work on finalizing the 2001 budget.

The committee will meet Wednesday at 6 p.m.
