Lady Vikings give Bryant first career victory

WILLOW WOOD – It was the first win for Symmes Valley Lady Vikings coach Lisa Bryant. Now, she just hopes more will follow.

Bryant got her first career win Thursday as the Lady Vikings downed the St. Joe Female Flyers 58-11.

"I’ll enjoy it while I can. We’ve got a tough SOC schedule coming up," Bryant said. "We played hard and didn’t quit and everyone got to play, so that was nice."

After struggling with their offense in the past, the Vikings were just 24-of-69 from the field for 35 percent.

"We shot the ball better," Vikings coach. "We shot 42 percent which was pretty good, but we can do better. Right now , we’re just lacking confidence."

Jessica Myers had 10 points to lead a balanced Symmes Valley attack. Dusty Martin added 9 points and six rebounds while Keren Bell had nine rebounds..

The Lady Vikings play at 6 p.m. Monday at Ohio Valley Christian.

Portsmouth 55, South Point 50

SOUTH POINT – Not even a Halloween costume could work this well.

The South Point Lady Pointers threw a major scare at the Portsmouth Lady Trojans Thursday in a non-league game.

South Point trailed just 51-50 with less than two minutes to play before the Lady Dragons hit some key free throws to seal the win.

Portsmouth led 13-11 after the first quarter despite 6 points from Allison Perdue.

The Lady Trojans led 26-24 at the break.

Ali Hull scored all 19 of her points the second half as Portsmouth held on for the win.

Perdue finished with 17 points to lead the lady Pointers (1-1).

Fairland 65, Ironton 43

PROCTORVILLE – The Fairland Lady Dragons do different types of jumping on the basketball court.

Besides running and jumping, the Lady Dragons like jumping out to big leads early. They did just that Thursday en route to a 65-43 win over the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers.

"We jumped on them early and then after that we played well at times. We weren’t consistent at times. But it’s early in the season and we just have to work on being consistent," Fairland coach Nathan Speed said.

Jennifer Jones scored six points the first quarter as Fairland raced to a 24-9 lead.

Things cooled the second quarter offensively and Fairland was up 32-16 at the half.

Jones got six more points the third quarter as the Lady Dragons extended their lead to 51-32.

Fairland, 1-1, was led by Jones with 22 points and eight rebounds. Jeana Diamond added 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Brook Godby added 13 points.

Candace Ferguson poured in 20 points to lead the Fighting Tigers and Rachel McClellan scored 11.

On Monday, Ironton hosts South Point while Fairland visits Portsmouth.
