SCIOTOVILLE – Okay, so the Fairland Lady Dragons still need a little work. But the parts that are working right now are working well.

Despite a few problems, Fairland overcame a slow start to beat the Portsmouth East Lady Tartans 70-54 Thursday in a non-league game.

"East plays hard and they’re physical. But we gave a good effort, we just didn’t execute as well as we need to," Fairland coach Nathan Speed said. "That’s something we need to work on."

East took a 13-12 lead the first quarter. Jeana Diamond had 10 of Fairland’s points in the quarter.

Brooke Godby scored eight in the second quarter as Fairland erupted for 21 points and took a 33-27 halftime lead.

Diamond got six more points in the third quarter as the Lady Dragons extended their lead to 53-42.

Laurel Wilkes got six points the fourth quarter as Fairland continued to pull away.

Diamond had a game-high 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to pace the Lady Dragons, 3-2.

Godby had 14 points and six rebounds while Brooke Fisher scored 12 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, handed out 12 assists, and had three steals.

Annie Clinger scored 15 points to lead three players in double figures for East. Jessie Mullens and Heather Grooms scored 13 points each.

Fairland plays at South Webster Saturday.
