The Christmas tree drop sites, like this one on State Route 141 across from Cook’s Farm Supply in Ironton, are starting to fill up as county residents continue to take down their holiday decorations. The drop sites are part of a project by county solid waste authorities and the USDA Forest Service. The program will help turn the discarded Christmas trees into fish habitat at Lake Vesuvius. Other drop sites are located at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds in Proctorville, Quality Farm and Fleet in Wheelersburg, the vacant lot beside the welcome sign in Coal Grove, the vacant lot beside the townhouse in Hanging Rock, the vacant lot beside the South Point Police Department, and the Wayne National Forest Ranger Station in Pedro. Anyone can bring their tree – without decorations or icicles – to any of the sites. For more information, call the Wayne National Forest at 534-6500.
