PROCTORVILLE – It could have been a real problem for the Fairland Dragons when leading scorer Chris Dinwiddie had a season-low eight points.

Instead, it was no problem as his teammates picked up the scoring slack. Michael Hill, Darren Colburn, and Glen Chapman all hit double figures as the Dragons beat the Coal Grove Hornets 64-40 Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Hill had a game-high 16 points including three 3-pointers to go with six steals. Colburn had 11 points and 10 rebounds while Chapman added 11 points. Dinwiddie dished out four assists.

J. J. Hunt scored 11 points to lead the Hornets (1-9, 0-2). Eric Tackett added eight points.

Hill scored seven points the first quarter as Fairland took a 17-11 lead.

Fairland’s defense limited Coal Grove to one field goal the second quarter on a 1-for-7 shooting and the Dragons outscored the Hornets 17-4 to build a 34-15 halftime cushion.

Fairland hit 16-of-32 shots the first half.

The Dragons then continued to build to their lead the third quarter as they pulled away to a 55-26.

On Friday, Fairland hosts a tripleheader against South Point with the reserve game set for 5 p.m. followed by the girls’ varsity and then the boys’ varsity.

In the reserve game, Fairland won 64-41 as Matt Pritt scored 25 and C. J. Stewart nine. Tyler Sexton scored 18 for the Hornets.
