Matt Wilcox, Cory Foxwell, Billy Terrell, and Alex Hunt will be recognized at the South Point United Methodist Church on Sunday during the church’s morning service. All four are 18 years old.

Wilcox, Foxwell and Terrell all earned the Eagle rank this month and Hunt earned the top scouting honor last May.

According to Troop #115 Scout Master Scott Kelly, to earn an Eagle Award, a scout must complete a series of tasks, including earning merit badges and providing a service that will benefit the community or church. The scouts also had to have a leadership role in the completion of these projects.

"A lot has to do with individuality and helping others," Kelly said.

After the minimum requirements are met, it must be approved by the National Headquarters for Boy Scouts. The entire process for a scout to earn the Eagle Award can take approximately three years.

Only about two percent of scouts will receive the Eagle Award, Kelly added.

According to the Boy Scouts of America press office, about 1 million boys have earned the rank since the program’s inception in 1911. The South Point scouts will join people such as President Gerald Ford, H. Ross Perot, Steven Spielberg, all of whom earned the highest scouting rank in their boyhood.

The court of honor for Wilcox will be held at The First Southern Baptist Church in South Point, on Sunday during the evening worship service. Foxwell and Terrell’s court of honor will be held at The First Baptist Church in Burlington, on Feb. 23 at 2 p.m.
